About The Work

Mothership is journey through absurd and whimsical environments, drawing broadly on references to ancient mythology, science fiction, architecture and corporate branding. The culminating film is a mystical critique on power, wealth and the role of technology in the digital age.

Move the Way you Want transports viewers back-and-forth, from ancient mythology where horses are symbols of majesty and beauty to today’s digital age where horses have evolved into digital devices of our shared economy. Drawing on a wide range of sources—from historical artworks and ancient mythology, to science fiction, video games, and virtual reality—Move the Way you Want reflects the tensions of our commercialized lifestyle. Although posh and seductive, underneath its surface is a bleak futuristic vision of our dehumanized world where technology takes over.

In Sacrifice of the Mushroom Kings, popular video game characters step into the gilded age of American capitalism, as they wander around buildings built by J.P. Morgan and Philip Lehman. Its disjointed narrative draws equally on the past and mythology, as on science fiction and contemporary culture, while referencing the timeless rise and fall of power structures.

Files should be migrated to new external hard drives every 3-5 years. Collectors should be mindful of all components included in this package, so that they may avoid distorting the work. In Fall 2013, all three editions of Mothership were registered and authenticated through the Keidom SPOOL (Secure, Public, Online Ownership Ledger), later called ascribe, which interfaced with the Bitcoin Blockchain, making it the first digital artwork recorded on a decentralized ledger, an important predecessor for modern NFTs. The Keidom ID used was 2.1FfKZLAtDfR5bLEHKAVM9J8eFnWWpGNbkG. Ascribe has since been shuttered, however should the technology be resurrected, the artist reserves the right to burn this NFT and have Mothership 2 of 3 edition registered as originally intended in 2013.
